MBE for high mobility GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures

Contacts: Antonella CAVANNA and Ulf GENNSER

Our main workhorse for the high mobility growth is a GenII high purity machine, with Ga, Al, In, As, Si and C sources.  One of our specialities is 2DEGs optimised for gates with record small leakage currents, which is extremely useful for many of the topics of our collaborations. Present research includes 2DEGs on membrane structures, improving structures to decrease the disorder caused by gates, and to diminish the size of ohmic contacts. Our 2DEGs are involved in a great number of impactful investigations, both within C2N and with external collaborators, such as:

Investigating exotic states of matter and unusual transport phenomena with tunable quantum circuits.

Heat Quantum Transport: Investigating the quantum physics of heat, and using heat as a revealing probe.

Investigating anyon fractional statistics using the geometry of anyon colliders.

Single Electron Quantum Optics: studying the dynamics of coherent conductors and manipulating single electrons in the Integer Quantum Hall Regime.

Resonators and radiofrequency interferometry in the Quantum Hall Regime.

Electronic Flying Qubits: developing a quantum nanoelectronics platform for the creation, manipulation and detection of propagative electronic excitations on time scales down to the picosecond.

Developing Nano and Micro cryoelectronics for low frequency high impedance deep cryogenic readout electronics for quantum coherent mesoscopic circuits, and nano-Schottky diodes for sub-THz and THz space electronics.

The direct interaction between the growth, device fabrication and experiments, allowing for custom-made heterostructures for the projects, have played a great part in the success of these investigations.
